Why would an ex keep trying to reconnect with you?

If he was horrible and mean, then he is desperate and lonely. If he was sweet and nice, then he probably wants to get back with you because he is miserable without you and loves you more than ever. But a hunch is telling me he is desperate and lonely. Just a hunch........
