Is my boyfriend a bad guy like everyone says he is?

He could be putting on a show for you, but it's a darn good show!!! I would stick with him, with a little bit of caution. Tell your friends and everyone who is feeding you the crap that you are going to find out for yourself. Thank them for telling you, but let them know you are only going to judge him for his behavior with you, and not on rumors of the past. He is obviously trying really hard for you if he approached you about his 'guy's weekend.' That's being honest and considerate and communicating, all good things!! Make sure he knows you know about his past, but that you are not going to judge him for his past, only the present. I doubt he'd want to meet your parents if he really didn't care for you. I think he sounds nice and that maybe he is feeling differently about you than he has felt before, and so he's changing.
