Why are people INSISTENT on making boys names "Unisex"?

i think more people want their daughters to have "strong" names so instead of choosing them from a list of girl names, they're taking boy names that might not even have a good meaning but a harsher sound. it's frustrating now that i'm pregnant and trying to pick out boy names and every time i ask my mom or friends what they think, they all say they've turned into girl names!
