Join or don't join the singapore youth flying club?

My mum and uncle(a former syfc student) are pressing me to send in an application to the SYFC. They claim that chances are i might not get it too,so no harm trying. However,i have second thoughts on joining the SYFC as the place is rather far off from where I live. Furthermore, the commitments that i have to make is very time consuming,which will take up at least a weekday and both my saturdays and sundays,weekly,for about a year. I'll be starting poly soon and i'm afraid that my weekends will be gone without any time for revision. The problem now is my uncle,he is quite insistent. I know that he means well,as this can be used as a plus point in the near future. However,should i go for something i am quite half hearted about,which will require proper time management and juggling between my studies? Or instead,give it a miss despite it being a once in a lifetime opportunity and focus on my studies? Thank you so much,in advance:))
